TLIF0008 Apply safety critical communications in the rail environment
 

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to apply effective safety critical communications and is also considered best practice for general communications in the rail environment. It includes communicating, providing timely and accurate rail operational information and responding to unplanned situations or events appropriately.
 
This unit is intended for rail safety workers within the rail operational or infrastructure environment who are required to identify and respond to operational information as part of their job role.

Supervised Worker (SW)
 

This level of Track Access accreditation shows the worker has the understanding of the hazards in the Rail Corridor and provides them with the knowledge of the mitigation of those hazards. Workers at this level of Track Access must always be under the direct protection of a Protection Officer and are not permitted to enter the Rail Corridor without a Protection Officer being present.

This level of accreditation is suitable for those workers with limited or no experience in the rail environment.

Protection Officer Level 1 (PO1R) - Reassessment
 

The Protection Officer Level 1 reassessment is for current PO1 holders to renew their track access accreditation prior to their expiry date.  The PO1 level of accreditation shows the rail safety worker has the understanding of hazards in the Rail Corridor and the competence to provide Lookout working for a work group.

Participants who do not successfully complete the course THEORY or PRACTICAL assessments will have their Supervised Worker and Protection Officer (PO) Level 1 training competencies suspended. Suspension of the Supervised Worker competency will impact all higher level track access accreditations held by the participant. The participant will be required to successfully complete a Supervised Worker training course and successfully complete a full Protection Officer Level 1 training course, to regain the Supervised Worker and Protection Officer Level 1 training competencies.

This level of Track Access accreditation has the competence to provide protection to a worksite by using Absolute Signal Blocking (ASB). This level of Track Access accreditation can receive a Worksite Access Form as per Procedure 9018. This level of accreditation is used within a Local Possession Authority (LPA) to establish a fixed Worksite after receiving a Worksite Permit from the PPO..

Protection Officer Level 3 (PO3)
 

This level of Track Access accreditation shows the worker has the competence to provide Protection to a Work Group by using a TOA. This level of Track Access accreditation is used wihtin an LPA to establish a fixed worksite after receiving a Worksite Permit from the PPO. This level of accreditation is the required level for work insite depots. This level of accreditation can issue and receive a Worksite Access Form as per Procedure 9018.

Track Vehicles Operator (TV)
 

This level of Track Access accreditation has the competence to operate Road Rail Vehicles (RRV's) on the PTA Network. This accreditation allows track travel and working across the Network inclusive of within a Work on Track Authority (WOTA).

Possession Protection Officer (PPO)
 

This level of Track Access accreditation has the competence to provide protection to a worksite by using a Local Possession Authority (LPA). This accreditation can establish fixed Worksites within a LPA through issuance of Worksite Permits to a Protection Officer.

It is a requirement for Protection Officers to complete the PTA course for TLIF0008 Apply safety critical communications in the rail environment. Please ensure you enrol in one of the available courses

Third Party Operator - Rail Traffic Crew Urban (RTCU)
 

This level of PTA track accreditation is suitable for Rail Traffic Crew of Third Party Rail Operators who are required to access and travel across the Public Transport Authority's rail network.

The Railway Industry Worker (RIW) Card

The PTA has introduced RIW track access cards for employees and contractors who hold track access permits. Railway Industry Worker is a national competency management system for rail workers. It is owned and endorsed by the Australasian Railway Association (ARA) and used by other operators around Australia. The system is used to maintain training and competency information and to manage the production, distribution and control of competency cards.

Employees and Contractors must carry Rail Industry Worker identification when working on the PTA Network.

It is the responsibility of all RIW card holders to ensure they receive updates to the PTA’s Safeworking Rules and Procedures. RIW card holders shall ensure their contact details on their RIW card are current in order to receive notification of updates.

The PTA Safeworking Training Terms and Conditions are available here.
You need to have read and understood the information in this document pror to attending training.
 

PTA Dress Standards and PPE
Neat tidy attire with closed in footwear and clothing suitable for weather conditions (e.g. hat, rain jacket).
Attendees wearing thongs or singlets will not be permitted into training.

Note:  PPE will be required for any training that requires access to the Kwinana training yard and the live rail corridor.  Minimum PPE requirement for the PTA are safety boots and high visibility shirt or vest, however long shirts and long pants are required for some training.
