The Foundations in Simulation workshop allows participants to explore and discuss the underpinning knowledge, skills and attitudes that can enable them to make informed decisions during the acquisition, development, implementation and operation of simulation systems and activities in Australasia.
The workshop focuses on introducing modelling and simulation terms, concepts, purposes, applications and information resources to participants across all industries through concepts, activities and discussion groups. It introduces core terms and explores how they apply equally in a variety of different disciplinary settings.
As a result of attending this workshop, it is expected that participants will be informed about and will be able to discuss:
The context of simulation and modelling in Australasia, across a diverse range of contexts including health, aviation, defence, transport, resources and education
Current – and possible future – applications of simulation concepts including decision support, strategic, computer supported and face to face role play based modes
Common applications of simulation and modelling in Australasia
Utilisation of resources/links available to simulation professionals in Australasia
The role and functions of Simulation Australasia
International linkages in the field of simulation
Application of the following key concepts in:
Simulation and Human Behaviour
Validation, Verification and Accreditation (VV&A)
The Guide to Simulation Professional Skills Development in Australasia
The Simulation Australasia Professional Certification Framework
Organisations and events relevant to simulation
Associations and Societies
At the end of the session participants will be able to:
Understand the definition of simulation and common applications of simulation across a range of industries
Understand how simulation is used in various situation including the origins and rationale for application in this context.
Understand modalities, terminology and types of simulation.
Understand the key concepts in designing, developing and managing authentic Simulated Learning Environments.
